20 - Light Bulb Refraction
LOGISTICS
Indoors
EQUIPMENT
Tablet, lightbulb, black backdrop.
DESCRIPTION
You need an tablet or other 'light box' type device, a clear light bulb (or any smallish clear glass object) and ideally a tripod, to line the camera up precisely with the edge of the iPad.
Find a bright pattern online, put one on screen, turn brightness up full, place light bulb on top and turn all the lights off in the room. I also held my phone up high above with the torch on, to add a little light to the top of the screw fitting, as otherwise it just goes dark and you only see the bottom half.
Line the camera up so it's level with the edge of the tablet- so you can't see the screen at all, just the reflection in the bulb. Then take the shot using a narrow aperture for maximum sharpness throughout the depth of the bulb - I used f16 here. The background goes naturally black as long as the room is dark - and you get a totally unique image for every different pattern you use.
21 - Zoom Burst

Light it from underneath or shine a torch on it from the side. Can add reflective coloured card in the bottom of the glass is using a torch from the side. LOGISTICS
Outdoors with an appropriate subject

A camera and photoshop
DESCRIPTION
In short, walk around a subject taking many photographs aligned the same, then layer them in photoshop together to create an image like an impressionist painting.
This layer technique can be altered to create many different visual effects for a variety of scenes. Some only go part the way around, or some are just movements of the same scene.

Light painting patterns made with a torch on a string hanging from above. The torch is put into a momentum and the photo is taken for around a minute to create a pattern. If the torch is very light the end of the string will need some weight to allow it to swing smoothly.
