There is a buzz in the air as the long wait for Bonfest 2024 is nearly over!
I really adore this festival. It's such a wholesome effort of love and dedication for everything it stands for. For anyone unfamiliar with Bonfest, it's a 3 day rock festival in Kirriemuir that celebrates the legend that is Bon Scott of AC/DC. Nearly 100 bands take part during the 3 days, playing all kinds of rock and metal music and, of course, a whole lot of AC/DC! The highlight of each day is the Arena at night where 3 bigger bands play, with the last one being an AC/DC tribute band. The event attracts many AC/DC Family and other rock lovers from all over the world, with thousands of people making the trip each year to join in. There is a lot of love for Bonfest.
DD8 Music is the charity behind Bonfest, and each year this is the main fundraiser to raise money to help the charity continue its good work with children in the area. The event comes together with the help of a few staff and many volunteers who work year after year to contribute to its continued success. I'm a volunteer for DD8 Music and their Camera Club, and I also volunteer my time to lead the photography team at Bonfest.
Last year had some great bands, like Kris Barras Band, Scarlet Rebels and The Treatment... but Gun was the highlight for me. I saw Gun open up for Bon Jovi in the 90s at Ibrox, so it was great to see them again after such a long time. Gun are also one of those bands where you forget how many songs you know by them. They really do have some great back catalogue!
This year I can't decide who I am most excited to see. They have some cool bands coming like Screaming Eagles, Empyre and Tyketto, but those 3 cover a different style of music. I'm going to say Tyketto though. This band made some brilliant music and, as many have said before, it's a shame they didn't get the success they deserved back in the day. I expect them to have that 90s American rock god stage presence, so it'll take me back to my Aerosmith and Bon Jovi years. Love it!
I've included a few Bonfest 2023 photos in this post as I get ready for next weekend.
